供职于五十岚流浪犬收容所的神崎彰司是一名真心喜爱动物的善良男子，此前他在动物园供职期间与妻子千夏结合，生下一双可爱的儿ddd。妻子去世后，彰司转职收容所，虽然尽可能地帮更多狗狗找到新的主人，但仍无奈地一次次按下按钮，终结狗狗的生命。此时此刻，他心中的悲伤可想而知。某天，彰司和同事遭遇了一只带着幼犬的母狗。母狗凶猛异常，为了保护孩子不惜一切。虽然遭到来自主管的压力，可是彰司无论如何不愿伤害狗狗母子。他想方设法延长收容期，四处奔走联系新的主人，在这一过程中也渐渐与母犬建立了信任。只是，最后一刻终将到来……本片根据发生在宫崎县的真实事件改编。
